How to Buy a Pre-Owned Watch

The market for pre-owned things is big. The wristwatch market is no exception.  Even though a wristwatch is a personal item, at some point, people are willing to part with it and buy something more expensive or more special to them. This week, we at Rolex Watches, offer some guidance on where and what to look for.

Before we begin, it is essential to understand that the market for pre-owned watches can be categorized into, those being fairly new watches and vintage watches. At the moment, the discussion will be on pre-owned Rolex watches from the 1990’s and later. Things before the 1990’s can be considered “Vintage”, even though some define vintage as meaning before to the 80’s or even before.

Why are drawing this line? Buying old watches needs a bit more expertise and explanation. We will cover the subject of vintage watches in another article. Why would you want to buy a pre-owned Rolex watch?

Well, there could be a chance that a watch you really like is not in production and is not available anymore. Under such circumstance, the only way to obtain such a watch would be in the pre-owned market, unless you hope to come across a never used model at a dealer who has never sold in the place, the chances of that happening are pretty thin.

Service history

It is not so important if the watch is only one or two years old, always ask about the service history of the watch and for the invoice. Since servicing a mechanical watch cost you quite a bit, chances are slim that the seller discarded this important document. If there is no invoice, then understand that the watch hasn’t had a service overhaul.  Calculate the cost of paying for the service yourself and add it to the watch’s price.  Decide whether it is still worth going forward. Ask for the official service cost at a renowned dealer.

Scratches and Dents

A watch should be worn. We have little use for those who put their new watch in a safe and never wear it again. Not every watch is meant for everyday wear, but it is sad to see most of these elegant watches disappear in collections that never see daylight. Of course, a watch that has been worn will have a few tiny hairline scratches, a few deep scratches and an occasional dent.

Ask yourself what sort of shock or bump a watch must have received if a scratch is deep or has several dents.  You may still buy it, especially if you have checked to see that all its functions still work, but remember that damages could go deeper than what is seen on the surface.

Jewelry for Men: A Brief Overview

When it comes to men’s jewelry, the first question that comes to everybody’s minds is – what is appropriate?

Men’s jewelry has been a hot topic for debate for quite a few years now and I think we’ve reached a point where nobody cares anymore. What that means is that there are no new rules and the old ones are being broken every day!

So it’s time to flaunt whatever tickles your fantasy. Here is what Idd Aziz suggests you wear

Rings

The ring that you wear shows your personality. As a man, you can wear any type of a ring from a simple one to a complex, high-end designer piece. The best rings to go for are those made from gold, silver, or diamond. When it comes to wedding rings, go with simple bands with your favorite color.

Necklaces

A man’s necklace runs from 18-24 inches in length. When wearing the necklace, you need to ensure that the unit lies above the sternum without hugging your neck. The most popular units are chains and leather cords. The cool thing about them is that you can wear them without pendants. When wearing a necklace, don’t shy from customizing via engraving or any other way.

Bracelets

Bracelets for men are the latest jewelry trends. There are gold, diamond, titanium, tungsten, stainless steel, rubber, leather and even silver bracelets in the market that you can go for. Just like in women, bracelets aid in adding a bit of shine to your outfit. If you want to appear hip and youthful go for a braided leather unit.

Earrings

Yes, earrings are no longer a preserve for women. Most men are also wearing them. You can wear one ring in one lobe or done two rings on both lobes. When buying the units ensure that they aren’t too big for you thus uncomfortable to wear. Also, consider allergic reactions when wearing the pieces. Most people have been reported to be allergic to silver thus be careful when wearing the ring.

Cufflinks

You wear cuff links with a French-cuff shirt. The cool thing about them is that you don’t have to wear a certain cuff link with a specific shirt-you can alternate them. While they aren’t versatile, they are diverse thus you can find almost any type of cuff link that you want. They are made from different materials including: gold, silver, titanium, platinum, stainless steel, tungsten, and even gold. Most cufflinks are accented with sapphires, topaz, pearls, glass, rubies and crystal. You only need to choose the one that is ideal for you.

Conclusion

These are some of the popular pieces of jewelry for men that you can go for. When making the purchase, ensure that you buy them from a reputable store.
