Today, more and more people are moving toward the online market. Cheaper prices and easy transactions attract a lot of contemporary buyers. Consequently, we get a lot of inquiries and emails from people looking for advice on buying diamonds online.

However, what I’ve found is that a lot of the ‘online crowd’ are first-time buyers and know little to nothing about diamonds in the first place.

While preparing to write an article to guide people on the basics of buying and assessing diamonds, I came across a rather impressive article on Every Girl website. It covers all of the points I wanted to make, the contributors are as follows:

What you really need to know about buying an engagement ring.

We’re guilty of the occasional impulse purchase as much as the next girl, but there are a few specific occasions where shopping requires some extensive research: Purchasing a home, a new car, baby gear, or investment jewelry, to name a few. Whether you’re shopping for an engagement ring with your significant other or treating yourself to a slice of luxury that can be passed down for years to come, buying a diamond can be an overwhelming and intimidating process. So what do you REALLY need to know before you take the leap? We found out! Thanks to Johanna Tzur, CMO of James Allen, we’re breaking down exactly where to begin in the buying process, how to maximize your budget to get the best quality diamond you can afford, and which trends in the diamond industry are still evolving. See full post here:

What Diamond Shapes Work Best

Looking for a diamond? Many of us will immediately think of the classic round diamond shape. Although, round brilliant cut is the most popular shape. But they are a number of other shapes available. Most diamond shapes are round, square (cushion), rectangular (princess, Asscher, emerald, radiant), heart-shaped, pear-shaped, oval, or marquise (like a pear but pointed on both ends). The distinction between a diamond’s shape and cut may be confusing at first. The shape refers to the appearance of the stone, and the cut to the diamond’s ability to reflect light.

Choosing which shape you want is really a question of personal preference and can be tricky for many people.. What shape visually appeals to you the most?

In the following article by Jonathan Brownell, he explains in detail a comprehensive list of the most popular diamond shapes and their characteristics.

The Most Popular Cuts of Diamonds For Engagement Rings

The traditional round diamond has 57/58 facets, 57 without a Culet and 58 with a Culet. This is the traditional pattern that has been cut for about a hundred years. As time has passed, the precision with which the pattern is cut is about the only thing that has changed. The pattern is still the same.

When looking to purchase a traditional round, the goal is  to get a diamond that is balanced. Seeking optimal light performance in a traditionally cut stone is not a good approach and is going to leave you frustrated. What you want to be looking for is a good value for the weight, color, clarity, and cut. See full post here:
